Speaker Series: "Pickering & the 1837 Rebellion" with Katrina Pyke

October 15, 2025 (7:00 PM - 8:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Explore the events that lead to the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. Join Katrina as she shares an interactive exploration of Pickering's involvement in the uprising and challenges you consider if you would have risked your life for liberty as Pickering's fated rebel, Peter Matthews, did.

Katrina Pyke has worked in the museum field for over 30 years.  She has an MA in Public History and a passion for researching and sharing fun and exciting aspects of our storied past. One of her favourite topics is the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837.  In researching and writing an original play for Pickering Museum Village - A Spirit Walk: Call to Rebellion (performed for 25 years at the museum), and creating an engaging education experience on the topic for students she has successfully riled up the inner rebel in many museum participants!

This program is offered in a hybrid format - in-person at Hillary House National Historic Site and online via Zoom.
