Join the Town of Aurora on September 30 for an evening of reflection, learning, and community as we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Held at Aurora Town Square (50 Victoria Street), this gathering has been developed in partnership with members of the Indigenous community. Community members are invited to come together to recognize the truths of Canada's history, honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, acknowledge Survivors and their families, and reflect on the importance of meaningful reconciliation.

At 5 p.m., participants can engage in a community learning experience based on the Seven Sacred Teachings: Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, and Truth. Through storytelling and interactive discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Indigenous values and knowledge.

Beginning at 6 p.m., a ceremony and community gathering will be led by Anishinaabe Grandmother Kim Wheatley, Elder Pat Floody, and Ancestral Knowledge Keeper Raiden Levesque. Their teachings and reflections will help guide participants in remembering the children who did not come home, honouring Survivors and their families, and acknowledging the enduring impacts of residential schools.

Together, we can take time to reflect, learn, and strengthen our commitment to understanding, respect, and reconciliation.
